Guwahati: Disturbed by the trend of attack and violence against women across the country, a girl from Assam has written to Prime Minister Narendra Modi requesting him to include free self-defence training for girls in schools across the country.
15-year-old Minakshi Singha, a resident of New Colony of Pandu area in Guwahati sent the letter to the Prime Minister on November 18.
Minakshi, a student of Class IX of Pragjyotish Senior Secondary School also identified herself as a wushu athletic.
In the letter, the 15-year-old girl stated, "Sir today I wanted to tell you about something that I have been thinking about for quite a while. At a time when cases of attack and violence against women are on the rise, I am requesting you to include free self-defence training for girls in school curriculum all over the country, so that school kids, especially girls students taught about self-defence, which will instil confidence in them and protect them in time of need," Minakshi wrote in her letter.
"Sir, I am a wushu athletic of Maligaon Wushu training centre and organize free self-defence training for girls in every Sunday in my area under the guidance of my master Siju Gopi Singh Lama for last one year," she said.
Minakshi, daughter of Dr Monojit Singha also urged the Prime Minister to reply to her letter, which is "from a little Indian citizen".
Minakshi is a Wushu athletic with three years of training. She has been organising a free self-defence training workshop for girls every Sunday at the Maligaon area under the guidance of her master Sifu Gopi Singh Lama for the last one year.
