Guwahati: National Democratic Front of Bodoland (NDFB-R) Chairman Ranjan Daimary was released from jail on Saturday after he was granted interim bail for four weeks by the Gauhati High Court.
Soon after his release from the Gauhati Central Jail, Daimary was flown to New Delhi by an chartered flight to take part in the peace talks.
It is to be noted that Daimary was serving life imprisonment in the 2008 serial bomb blasts case.
His lawyer had filed a petition seeking his bail, following which, a bench of the Gauhati High Court granted him four-week interim bail. The Assam government and Ministry of Home Affairs have also issued a ‘No Objection’ notice in the interest of the peace process.
Earlier on January 16 this month, a ceasefire agreement was signed between the NDFB(S) and the Centre. The cadres and leaders of the NDFB(S) have expressed that they would work towards peace and therefore have returned to the mainland.
Ranjan Daimary, along with nine others, was given life imprisonment by a special CBI court for carrying out the deadly serial bomb blasts in Assam.
