'Harassed' migrant workers in AP appeal for help

The labourers from Odisha have appealed to the Odisha Legal Authority to protect them after claiming their employers at a brick kiln in Andhra Pradesh harassed them and did not pay their wages.

Nellore: Labourers from Odisha, working at a brick kiln in Nellore district broke down before senior civil Judge P. Pandurangareddy who came to visit them after receiving their appeal.

G. Malyadri and Venu Bhagwan run a brick-making kiln near Kottapalli village in Nellore district. About a month ago, 15 workers from Dungrabahal village in Odisha came here for employment. A few days later four workers left without informing the owners.

The labourers have appealed to the Odisha Legal Authority to protect them after claiming their angry employers tortured those left behind.

Nellore District Legal Authority officials, the Kavali Senior Civil Judge and the Chairman of the Mandal Legal Service Committee Authority, Pandurangareddy, met the migrant workers.

Workers complained to them that owners have been brutally beating and torturing them. The workers also alleged that daily wages were not being paid regularly. The labourers said that they were staying in Nellore due to lack of work at present.

Responding to this the judge said that orders have been issued to the labour and police officials to take action against the violators.
