Srikakulam: Chaos prevailed in Kotula Gummada village of Srikakulam district on Wednesday as a herd of elephants went on a rampage, damaging crops and plantations in the area.
The parade, which reportedly came from forest areas abutting Kotturu in Garugubulli Mandal of Vizianagaram district, ventured into the neighbouring Srikakulam district via Vangara Mandal.
Alarmed by the ruckus created by the pachyderms, locals remained sacred and were confined to their homes.
They claimed a massive loss to the crops and to the banana plantations, which were reportedly destroyed by the herd.
These elephants are currently venturing near Nagavali river and the forest department has released an advisory directing the villagers to stay away from engaging the animals.
