YSRCP leader Kasu Mahesh Reddy on Wednesday said that TDP leaders continue to think that their party is still in power. "They must change their behaviour else they will be taught a lesson," said Reddy.

"The situation in villages is peaceful as our leader YS Jagan Mohan Reddy has said. I am telling TDP leaders to change their behaviour. Otherwise, we will teach them a lesson. They may be thinking that their party is still in power. They should not act over smart or else their game will be over," he told the reporters here.

Telugu Desam Party (TDP) chief N Chandrababu Naidu was on Wednesday morning put under preventive detention when he along with his party workers were set to take out 'Chalo Atmakur' rally.

The former Andhra Pradesh chief minister following the house arrest sat on a hunger strike to protest against his detention. His strike will continue till 8 pm. His son was also put under preventive detention at their residence, following an altercation with the police.

TDP leaders and workers who were on their way to Naidu's residence were stopped by the police and taken into preventive custody. Section 144 was also imposed in Narasaraopeta, Sattenapalle, Palnadu, and Gurajala areas as a preventive measure.

The state police have put several TDP leaders under the house arrest in view of the party's call for 'Chalo Atmakur' rally following political violence allegations made by the YSRCP. Police said the TDP did not get the permission to take out 'Chalo Atmakur' rally.

Meanwhile, the TDP has accused the YSR Congress Party of indulging into political vendetta after coming to power in May. It has alleged that the cadres of the YSRCP have killed as many as eight of its workers and have attacked many more.

YSRCP leader Lavu Sri Krishna Devarayalu on Wednesday accused the former Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu of spreading fake stories of political vendetta in the Palnadu region of Guntur district.

"For the past three months, our government is taking substantial steps to develop the region. But Chandra Babu Naidu is trying to create fake news, fake stories and is trying to enact a drama when nothing is happening in Palnadu area. He is trying to defame the people of Palnadu by claiming that so much violence, illegal activities and factionalism are taking place in the region," the YSRCP MLA said.

"This is a usual practice by him. He always tries to politicise everything," he added.

The statement from Devarayalu came just hours after Andhra Pradesh police had put several Telugu Desam Party (TDP) leaders under house arrest in view of the party's call for 'Chalo Atmakur' rally following political violence allegations made by YSRCP. Police said that TDP did not receive any permission to take out the rally.

Meanwhile, TDP has also accused the YSR Congress Party of indulging in political violence after coming to power in May. It has alleged that the cadres of the YSRCP have killed as many as eight of its party workers and have attacked many more.

Krishna district Telugu Desam Party (TDP) President and MLC, Bachula Arjunudu, was placed under house arrest on Wednesday as tensions mounted over political violence in the region.

Arjunudu was taken into custody in Gudur police station limits and shifted to his house in Machilipatnam.

This development comes after former Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu and his son Nara Lokesh were put under house arrest, hours before a proposed 'Chalo Atmakur' rally in Guntur district of the state.

TDP chief Chandrababu Naidu had said that his party would go ahead with the protest to highlight the “excesses” committed on their cadre by the YSRCP leaders. The former chief minister, who was to lead the march, had asked party leaders and workers to stage protests wherever the police stopped them.

"I am warning the government and the police that they cannot play this type of politics and cannot arrest us like this. This government is violating human and fundamental right," Naidu said.

"We will continue our fight and will try to protect the right of villagers of Atmakur," Naidu opined.

Meanwhile, his son Nara Lokesh has claimed that Jaganmohan Reddy government is dictatorial and has killed the democracy.

"YSRCP is trying to strangulate our party across Andhra Pradesh. We were moving ahead in a democratic manner but our entire leadership was put under house arrest. This is murder of democracy," Lokesh said.

Stating that the TDP will go ahead with the protest, Naidu's son and party general secretary Nara Lokesh had tweeted that the “struggle would continue till justice is done to the victims of violence perpetrated by the YSRCP."

The TDP alleged 10 party workers had been killed, most of them in the Palnadu region, in the attacks by the YSRCP leaders. Over 500 TDP activists and sympathisers had been attacked since the announcement of election results in May, it added.

Naidu was also scheduled on Wednesday will be meeting the victims' violence at a camp in Guntur, set up by the TDP.

To counter the TDP's 'Chalo Atmakur' march, the YSRCP has decided to stage its own protest with victims of the attacks by TDP leaders.

YSRCP spokesman Ambati Rambabu said despite facing crushing defeat in the elections Naidu was resorting to gimmicks. The YSRCP at its rally would highlight the repression by TDP on its cadres, he said.

According to reports, Section 144 has been imposed in Narasaraopeta, Sattenapalle, Palnadu and Gurajala. With the TDP cadre not being allowed to protest, Naidu has called for a 12-hour hunger strike across the state.

Director-General of Police Gowtham Sawang had said on Tuesday that no meeting, rally, procession or protest could be staged in the region as Section 144 of Criminal Procedure Code and Section 30 of the Police Act were in force.

With the TDP firm on staging the protest 'Chalo Atmakur', the police chief said nobody should create any law and order problem. "The political parties should cooperate with the police in maintaining peace," he added.
