Melbourne: India's Prajnesh Gunneswaran has qualified for the main draw of Australian Open 2020 as a 'Lucky Loser' on Saturday.

The 30-year-old suffered defeat to Latvia's Ernests Gulbis in the final round of qualifying on Friday.

However, due to injury withdrawals of Alex de Minaur and Kamil Majchrzak and a doping suspension on Nicolas Jarry, Prajnesh qualified for the main draw for the fifth consecutive time at a Grand Slam.

Prajnesh will play Tatsuma Ito of Japan in the first round of the Australian Open. If the world No. 122 wins the fixture, he could possibly face defending champion Novak Djokovic in the next round.

The Indian tennis player had made the main draw of every single Grand Slam (Australian Open, French Open, Wimbledon and US Open) in a calendar year.

In the Australian Open qualifiers, Prajnesh defeated local player Harry Bourchier and Germany's Yannick Hanfmann before losing out to Gulbis.
