Joshua Kimmich scored the sole goal for Bayern when he chipped the ball inside the goalpost from the edge of the penalty area in the 43rd minute of the game. With this win over Dortmund, Bayern has now taken a seven-point lead at the top of Bundesliga standings.

Interestingly, Hansi Flick, the coach of Bayern Munich has now tasted victory in 15 of his opening 18 Bundesliga matches as in-charge of the side.

With this, Flick has joined Pep Guardiola in an elite list for winning more than 15 matches from total 18 played as in charge of Bayern Munich.

Under Guardiola, Bayern won 16 of their opening 18 games in 2013-14 - drawing the other two, went on to enjoy three trophy-laden seasons at the Allianz Arena that saw Bayern win seven major honours.

With the win over Dortmund, Bayern now has made it seven wins in a row.

Bayern has recorded 13 wins in their last 14 matches and the side last lost a match towards the end of the year.

Meanwhile, Leverkusen wasted their chance to move within a point of BVB after a home loss to Wolfsburg that was as surprising as it was heavy.

Marin Pongracic's glancing header gave the visitors a half-time lead, which they added to through impressive Maximilian Arnold and Renato Steffen.

Pongracic added his second of the evening with 15 minutes remaining, with Julian Baumgartlinger's late goal for Bayer scant consolation.

Borussia Monchengladbach also failed to capitalise on Dortmund's loss as they drew 0-0 at relegation-threatened Werder Bremen, who looked most likely to snatch victory.

Tuesday's other match ended in an engrossing 3-3 draw between Eintracht Frankfurt and Freiburg at Commerzbank-Arena.

Vincenzo Grifo's opener for the visitors was cancelled before the break by Andre Silva, but Frankfurt's torrid recent run looked set to continue as Nils Petersen and Lucas Holer put Freiburg 3-1 up.

But the home side dug deep to eke out a point through Daichi Kamada and substitute Timothy Chandler.
