Spain: Real Madrid's Marcelo Vieira on Monday urged people to start making "real changes" in the world after the player knelt down to celebrate a goal.

"Happy to be back with @realmadrid! Happy to have scored a goal! But even happier to see all the CHANGES in the World! Now It's time. We must use the power we have and start making real CHANGES," Vieira wrote on Instagram.

Real Madrid on Sunday secured a commanding 3-1 victory over Eibar in La Liga.

Marcelo had scored a goal for his side after which he dropped to his knee and raised his right fist to express solidarity with the ongoing Black Lives Matter protests.

The Brazilian veteran defender put his left knee down and raised his right fist into the air after scoring the third goal for Madrid.

Marcelo's gesture made him one of the few players in the Spanish league to make public their support for the movement which has protested police brutality after George Floyd's death in the United States. Valencia's players last week had also taken a knee before a training session to show their support.

'Black Lives Matter' protests started from the US after George Floyd, an African-American man, passed away after having a knee pressed onto his neck by a police officer identified as Derek Chauvin.

Meanwhile, Eden Hazard, who had been expected to miss the rest of the season because of a foot injury sustained before the coronavirus pandemic, thrived on his return and set up two of the goals in the game.

Real Madrid hold the second spot on the La Liga points table with 59 points, just two points behind the top-placed club, Barcelona.

Madrid is expected to play all of its remaining home matches at the Alfredo Di Stfano while major renovation work takes place at the 80,000-capacity Santiago Bernabéu, about 10 kilometers (6 miles) away.
