In 2008 Delhi based team had the then Indian opener Gautam Gambhir and Sehwag opening for them. The squad looked solid as it had big international names like AB de Villiers, Tillakaratne Dilshan, Glenn McGrath and Daniel Vettori. But they couldn't win the semifinal and same continued in the next season where they again lost in semis.

In 2010IPL Delhi couldn't qualify as they won only 4 games and in 2011 they finished at the bottom of the table.

The 5th edition of IPL again saw the rise of DD under the captainship of Sehwag where they finished at the top of the table by winning 11 matches but again got kicked out in semifinals.

In 2013 everything changed for the Delhi team as their Icon player Sehwag was not retained by the team management and Srilanka's Mahela Jayawardene was named the new captain. Ever since then Delhi team are still searching for a stable team and a stable captain.

Changing captain policy didn't pay off well as in the next two season DD remained at the bottom of the table. Then Delhi was captained by England star Kevin Pietersen in the next season but the results were the same. Delhi in 2014 saw one of the worst performance as they only won 2 games in the entire season.

In 2015 and 16 Delhi was under the leadership of JP Duminy and Zahir Khan but even these two skippers could not change the story of the team as they again failed to qualify.

Zahir Khan was again named as the captain in 2017 with some new big names in the team like Quinton de Kock, Carlos Brathwaite, Corey Anderson and Angelo Mathews. But even after having one of the best international talents the team failed miserably.

In 2018 they brought back the local boy Gambhir and made him captain the side but he could not deliver with the bat and left the captainship in between the season. Shreyas Iyer took the charge of the young Delhi team after Gambhir.

Interestingly, Delhi is the only team which has never played the final of IPL.

Even though Delhi has dominated the lower half of the table in the last few years.

Delhi team this year has a strong young Indian batting core and some serious international bowling stars which makes them a big threat to many teams.

Delhi Capitals always had the quality international as well as overseas player but they never had the team. Individual performance will never help a team win a cup it is always the team effort which makes you the champion. Let's see if Delhi has understood this fact and will they be able to implement it and win their first ever IPL title.
