Mumbai: Superstar Mithun Chakraborty whose acting skills and killer dance moves ruled the silver screen for a long period of time, turned a year wiser today. Though the actor enticed the limelight with several hits, his stardom didn't get fuzzy, as he yet stands to be 'Mithun Da' of Bollywood.
'Gouranga Chakraborty', are you familiar with this name? For unversed, it's the real name of the timeless entertainer Mithun Chakraborty. The actor who donned variant hats throughout his career span never dreamt to become an actor. In an interview, he had said to a leading portal, "I was forced to act because I had no way to return to Kolkata."
However, Mithun didn't miss to wow fans sporting unique outfits and they loved his fashionable avatar to bits. The name 'Disco Dancer' is synonymous to the ageless actor. His acting prowess was not just restricted to Bollywood movies, he also created a new genre in terms of dance and aspired many with his style statement.
Mithun hit the bull's eye with his debut film Mrigya in 1976 and went on to bag his first National Film Award for best actor for it. After being halted number of times, when the project was finalized, Mithun got selected as the lead. However, his popular dance number 'I am a disco dancer' from the film Disco Dancer, was a major success in 1982. This film catapulted him to the big league.
The versatile actor who had his fair share of struggles has quoted several times that he was not even sure if he would manage to get his meal for the day or not. Having a dark-skin and being a naive in Hindi speaking, were some major drawbacks of the star's journey. He thought that the role of a villain would suit him more than a hero. Amid the gleaming lights of the dance floor, flaunting some amusing dance moves, would hide his skin tone, was what Mithun used to think.
The way Mithun used to deliver dialogues in Hindi, topped the matters of titbits for many. If social media was on power then, Mithun would have been among the most trolled topics. However, he never denied his inefficiencies. Even after attaining the stardom, the star said, "I still can't speak Hindi."
Besides acing role in variant Bollywood films, he has also featured in Bengali, Oriya, Bhojpuri, Telugu and Punjabi flicks. The way he portrayed the role of a rooted man Chinu Nandi in 'Shukno Lanka', was truly remarkable. The man who accepted failure with a winsome smile. Besides, Mithun also won hearts by featuring Manik Dasgupta in Abhisekh Bachchan and Aishwarya Rai Bachchan starrer Guru.
Mithun who earned popularity in Mumbai didn't loose connect with his birthplace. Though he left Bengal, the state never gets tired hooting his name at any cultural or entertaining events. Being a polite-hearted man, Mithun owns fifty dogs and over four-hundred birds in his home. He considers them as his own children and believes that it is the way to spread love among all.
