Mumbai: Bollywood and media were still not recovered from the hangover of Sonam Kapoor and Anand Ahuja's wedding on May 8 in 2018. Two days later, Neha Dhupia and Angad Bedi had everyone in for a surprise when they broke the news of their intimate wedding on social media.
The couple, however, had a big battle to win before they exchange vows and say, "I DO."
Neha and Angad's union had come as a surprise to many except Karan Johar, who had seen this coming. The couple then unaware of already being in love with each other was pushed by Karan to listen to what their hearts were saying aloud. It was KJo who at a party had told them, "Can you not see this?! Are you blind?"
For unversed, Neha and Angad were already expecting their first child together when he mustered up the courage to approach her family to ask for her hand in marriage. Angad had recalled those moments of excitement, anxiety and immense pressure when he recorded for Neha's show, No Filter Neha.
Angad had said that he had brought up the topic of marriage only after enjoying a warm welcome by the Dhupia's with an elaborate spread of gulab jamuns, dosa, tea and beer.
When Angad narrated what had happened at Neha's house after they dropped the thunderbolt, the following sequences sounded like the climax scene of a Bollywood film. While Neha had made it clear that she is not going to handle it alone, Angad had to do the heavy lifting and was a bundle of nerves on the "judgement day."

Rewinding the whole rollercoaster experience, Angad had said on the show: "Considering that you (Neha) didn’t want to break the news that you were expecting, so we had to tell them that we need to get married and we love each other. I was extremely nervous because that was the judgement day, technically. To break the news to your parents, I really had cold feet as clearly it was not going to come from you (Neha). Everything had to come from me. I had to really man up and speak. I just had to blurt it out and see the reaction.”
Nothing could have prepared Angad for the kind of reaction he was about to get from the Sr Dhupia. On hearing what Angad had to say, there were moments of awkward silence until a major showdown began when Neha’s parents, fuming with anger blasted the two of them, and her mother even suffered a nosebleed due to stress. However, they did agree to the marriage.
Interestingly, the former Miss India didn’t had a wedding trousseau 10 hours before the ceremony and could manage it only at nick of the time. Neha in an earlier interview had said that even it was decided in advance, her wedding would have still been a close-knitted affair.
"Sometimes, the things happen in life so quickly but I don’t regret it. If I was given even six months or a year to prep for my wedding, I would have had a small wedding, would get married in baby pink and would do an Anand Karaj and would want to get married to Angad again. There is nothing else that I want," said Neha.
As they say, "all's well that ends well”, Angad and Neha united in marriage to tell their beautiful love story to Mehr, their baby girl whom they welcomed on November 18.
