Aamir opted out of the Vikram Vedha remake over creative differences is being widely reported. After Mr. Perfectionist's exit, the makers were on the lookout for an actor who could do justice to the role which was aced by acclaimed actor Vijay Sethupathi in the original.

The said gangster role is now being lapped up by the Hrithik. Interestingly, before Aamir gave his nod for the film, at one point the makers had also approached Hrithik but back then things did not work out. As reported earlier, Vikram Vedha draws inspiration from the folk tale of Raja Vikramaditya and the spirit, Betaal, and imagines the tale in a modern-day set-up. In the original film, R. Madhavan played the cop Vikram, while Vijay Sethupathi essayed Vedha.

In the film, Vikram, a top cop gunning for a criminal named Vedha, manages to capture the criminal several times through the story, but each time the criminal gives him the slip by distracting him with an interesting new story about his life. The stories also change the cop's perception of his life and duty.
