Hyderabad: Junaid Khan has bagged dream debut with Yash Raj Films has been talk of the town of late. Aamir Khan's firstborn is said to have signed a period drama as his maiden film. While the banner is keeping details from the film under wraps, latest buzz suggests that the film is tentatively titled Maharaja and Junaid will be seen playing a Gujarati journalist in his debut venture.
Directed by Siddharth P Malhotra, the film is said to be inspired by the 1862 Maharaj Libel Case in which the Maharaj, a godman who is actually a conman, filed a case against Gujarati journalist and reformer Karsandas Mulji for writing an article questioning the values of a Hindu sect called the Vallabhacharya Sampradaya which the Maharaj was a part of. Junaid will be essaying the role of Mulji in the film.

Besides the film's title and Junaid's role, another detail that has leaked from the project is casting of acclaimed actor Jaideep Ahlawat. According to a leading webloid report, Junai'd debut film will star the Paatal Lok actor in the role of Jadunathji Brijratanji Maharaj, a religious leader who has been accused of having sexual relations with his women followers.
Junaid, who is Aamir's son with his first wife Reena Dutta, has studied dramatic arts in Los Angeles. The aspiring actor was earlier rumoured to be making his debut with Hindi remake of the Malayalam film Ishq for which he auditioned but was rejected. After which he was reportedly doing rounds of the casting directors and going through the grind of auditions until YRF decided to launch him.
