SHANGHAI: Together with over 100 automotive and technology companies in China, Qualcomm Technologies recently participated in China’s 2020 C-V2X Cross-industry & Large-scale Pilot Plugfest, objectively testing and demonstrating the performance and reliability of C-V2X in large-scale communication scenarios and exploring the performance of this technology in conjunction with map and positioning technologies.

A total of 180 C-V2X onboard units (OBUs) and roadside units (RSUs) were used as a test background to emulate complex conditions such as rush hour in urban areas and congested roads. In this test, the C-V2X communication performance and application function tests on-chip modules, terminals, and vehicles in various application scenarios validated the large-scale serviceability of the C-V2X system.

  • Most of the tested vehicles and OBUs were equipped with the Qualcomm® 9150 C-V2X chipset solution.
  • The tests are also featured with the QualcommSnapdragon™ Automotive 4G Platform, supporting stable connectivity.
  • Through the direct vehicle-to-vehicle (V2V) and vehicle-to-infrastructure (V2I) communications, 4G or 5G wireless wide area network (WWAN) vehicle-to-network (V2N) connectivity, the Snapdragon Automotive 4G/5G Platforms with integrated C-V2X technology and high-definition positioning help improve road safety and traffic efficiency to ease congestion and increase capacity, supporting C-V2X commercialization at scale.

Li Su, deputy director, Department of Security Technology Research, China Mobile Research Institute said, “We’re pleased to further deepen our cooperation with Qualcomm Technologies, witness the industry ecosystem to improve continuously, drive the development of China’s C-V2X industry and contribute to the national automotive industry development strategy.”

Dr. Yizhi Wang, co-founder and technology R&D vice president, Nebula Link said, “Nebula Link is thrilled to offer system support for C-V2X communication and function tests under the background of large-scale communication units. We hope to join hands with a wider range of industry chain companies, including Qualcomm Technologies, to accelerate the commercialization of C-V2X.”

“As advanced technologies such as Gigabit Ethernet, 5G and V2X are constantly improving, automakers have more demanding requirements for intelligent connectivity and smart driving,” said Ying Zhang, director of R&D Center, Great Wall Motors. “Last year, we forged a relationship with Qualcomm Technologies in 5G. We will adopt the Snapdragon Automotive 5G Platform in our latest cars in the future, bring 5G technology to intelligent connected transportation and smart cars, and drive rapid growth of the C-V2X industry and commercialization at scale.”

Jim Misener, senior director, product management and global V2X ecosystem lead, Qualcomm Technologies, Inc said, “Qualcomm Technologies is excited to participate in China’s C-V2X application demonstration for three consecutive years, team up with a broad range of Chinese automotive ecosystem vendors to accelerate commercial C-V2X rollouts with our breakthrough product portfolio, and usher in a new era of intelligent connected vehicles for road safety and traffic efficiency.”
