A team of the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) safely rescued a pregnant woman following a distress call in the Ghatal area of West Bengal, early on Friday. Earlier, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) department issued a warning of heavy to very heavy rainfall over the Gangetic West Bengal between August 4 and 6. The IMD suggested people stay indoors and avoid venturing out unnecessarily during thundershowers. It had mentioned that heavy rains will lash the state due to the presence of a cyclonic circulation over the north Bay of Bengal and adjoining areas. Issuing a yellow warning on Friday, IMD stated that heavy rain (7-11 cm) is likely to occur in one or two places in West Midnapore, Jhargram, Bankura and Purulia districts.
