RIP Girish Karnad: An era of rich theatre art passes away

Girish Karnad, a Jnanpith award winner, multi-lingual scholar, master playwright, screenwriter, actor, director and a colossus in India's cultural landscape, passed away at his residence on June 10. The reputed scholar also raised his voice on socio-political issues. He was a progressive voice that championed the freedom of expression. He worked across industries - Kannada, Tamil, Telugu, Malayalam, Hindi and Marathi. With Girish Karnad's exit from the stage of life, an era of rich theatre art passed away.
