Angry elephant halts traffic on Dehradun-Rishikesh road

Elephants crossing the road along with their babies is a rare sight to behold. The other day, two elephants along with their two babies were trying to cross the Rishikesh-Dehradun road in Uttarakhand. But the speeding vehicles blocked their way. Some travelling in those vehicles came close and took selfies of the pachyderms. Elephants waited for a little time and burst into screams. One elephant ran onto the road and trumpeted at which the wheels of vehicles screeched to a halt.

Then the elephant stayed on the road for a while, had a look at the surrounding traffic and retreated into the forest. The surprising thing is that the traffic resumed its onward journey with elephants standing on the edges of the woods by the roadside. During this, some people were seen taking selfies. Troubled by the noise of the vehicles, the elephants went back inside the dense forest after about 20 minutes. Fortunately, the anger of the elephants subsided quickly and they went towards the forest. Had they run amok, the drivers and passengers would have faced harm. As such incidents are repeating, local people have demanded continuous patrolling by the Forest Department to protect the Dehradun road from elephants.
