Caught on cam: Bus runs amok into petrol pump after driver dies of heart attack

A stitch in time by the bus conductor saved innumerous lives after his colleague and bus driver died of a heart attack while driving in Sindagi Nagar on Tuesday night. The bus which ran amok entered into a fuel station and stopped in time averting a major mishap.
A collision into one of the fuel pumps could have sparked a major explosion leading to a huge loss of lives. The deceased driver has been identified as Murugappa Athani. Murugappa took the bus from from Afazalpur in Kalaburagi district for Vijayapura for its designated trip. In the midway, the bus developed a snag with its headlight.
The passengers were de-boarded at Sindagi depot from where they were given alternate means to reach their destination. Murugappa who continued his trip without passengers in order to fix the bus collapsed on the wheels of the bus after he complained of of chest pain while driving.
However, the bus kept moving as Murugappa's leg was still depressing the accelerator despite losing control over the vehicle. The bus veered off to its right and entered the fuel station located on the Opposing lane. The bus conductor Sharanu Takali sensing the danger, stepped in . He applied brakes and stopped the bus.
The bus entering into the fuel station and causing flutter there were caught on CCTVs. Sharanu Takali said that passengers were earlier asked to board another bus due to the headlight problem. Suddenly, the driver Murugappa collapsed. "I noticed the bus entering the petrol station and immediately applied the brake to stop the vehicle," he added.
