Scientists test safety of face masks

Scientists using special imaging found wearing a mask reduces the forward distance travelled by droplets in exhaled breath by at least 90 per cent. But they say there is a risk of the infection being pushed backwards. These included surgical masks, respirators, lightweight and heavy-duty face shields, and handmade masks.
