This fried savoury snack is a great accompaniment to a fuming cup of tea. Chakli dough is mostly made of rice flour, roasted gram flour and sesame seeds with a hint of 'hing' (asafoetida) and red chilli powder. Chaklis are very popular as evening snacks in Gujarat and Maharashtra and South India where these are also known as murukku or chakralu and are prepared by mixing rice flour with urad dal flour. Chaklis are usually deep-fried in oil but keeping in mind the health factor people these days prefer ghee fried or oven-baked chaklis as well. Happy Munching!
