Hyderabad: World Hand Hygiene Day is observed on May 5 every year. Today this day has many significances in our lives as we are fighting against the Corona epidemic. At that time, the importance of keeping hands clean was better understood. This day is observed to raise awareness. According to the World Health Organization (WHO), the purpose of this day is to unite people around the world in support of improving hand hygiene.
According to WHO, the purpose of this day's campaign is to highlight the role of achieving hand hygiene measures. Everyone should practice hand washing as it helps protect them from viruses and bacteria, and healthcare workers should wash their hands carefully. That said, policymakers must invest in ensuring that hand hygiene is available to all.

The 'Clean Your Hands' 5 May campaign aims to maintain a global profile on the importance of hand hygiene in healthcare and mobilize people in support of improving hand hygiene. The Pan American Health Organization (PAHO) has extended an invitation in response to this campaign throughout the region of the Americas.
In the year 2023, World Hand Hygiene Day is being observed around the theme "Together we can accelerate action for infection and antimicrobial resistance in healthcare and build a culture of safety and quality so that improving hand hygiene is a high priority." A global campaign was launched in 2009 focusing on 'Clean Your Hands'. The campaign was launched to make people aware of the importance of maintaining hand hygiene. After that, it was decided to celebrate Hand Hygiene Day on 5th May every year.
