Did you know what is the similarity between Homeopathy and Vaccination? Well, both were introduced to the world in 1796. Homeopathy was introduced in Germany by Dr. Samuel Hahnemann and Vaccination by Dr. Edward Jenner in England. Homeopathy and vaccination, both are based on the same basic principle of ‘like cures like’.
In homeopathy, there are over 50 such medicines prepared from bacteria (tuberculosis, gonorrhea, syphilis, streptococci, staphylococci), viruses (smallpox, measles, rabies), and parasites (scabies, fungus, malaria), which are called ‘Nosodes’. Nosodes and Vaccines are based on the same principle, but they are prepared differently.
The vaccines are prepared by weakening the germs by attenuation, while the nosodes are prepared by a unique method of potentization. The purpose of attenuation and potentization is to make the drugs safe for use, yet, effective to strengthen the immunity against infections.
Vaccines are used as a preventive against the same infection. For example, the measles virus vaccine is used for the prevention of measles. However, in homeopathy, the use of nosodes is not restricted to the same infection, but they are used against many diseases, based on the homeopathic principle of similarity. For example, a nosode prepared from TB germs is used against migraine, colitis, and arthritis.
A nosode prepared from gonorrhea germs is used against asthma, backache, and other diseases. The application of nosodes is much wider than that of the vaccines. In fact, nosodes are used for many diseases more than for prevention. As per the WHO, there are about 25 common vaccines. As per homeopathic literature, there are about 50 common nosodes(Homeopathy Vaccine/pills).
It is interesting to note that a TB nosode, called Tuberculinum, was prepared by Dr. Samuel Swan around 1775, which is about seven years before Robert Koch discovered TB bacteria! Similarly, a rabies nosode from the virus was prepared by Dr. Constantine Hering around 1834, which is about fifty years before the rabies vaccine was prepared. So, homeopathy remained at the forefront in using biological materials as drugs in the nineteenth century.

However, with the advances in microbiology and immunology, the science of vaccines underwent a revolution and intense research making them more effective and safer. Unfortunately, homeopathy did not conduct the required research in the field of nosodes. As a result, nosode never evolved as prophylactic medicines in the last century.
Interestingly, there is a revolution happening in the area of Nosode research. Along with a team of scientists including virologists, microbiologists, immunologists, pharmacologists, there has been nosode research going on since 1996. The results are exciting and encouraging that could potentially contribute to the science of prevention and treatment.
