For a healthy body and a healthy mind, regular exercise is necessary for both men and women of all ages. But this does not imply that one needs to exercise vigorously for 1-2 hours at a stretch. Light exercises every day, which ensure muscle stretch, are very beneficial. To know more about what exercises can be included in our routine and some other necessary points, the ETV Bharat Sukhibhava team spoke to fitness expert Meenu Verma.
Benefits Of Exercising Regularly
- Exercise strengthens the body's immunity.
- Muscles remain healthy as well as the blood circulation in the body is enhanced
- Regular exercise reduces the problems related to blood pressure and keeps blood pressure under control.
- Regular exercise proves useful in keeping the metabolism healthy, which is necessary to control weight. This also burns calories faster and keeps weight under control.
- Many problems like stress, headaches and depression can also be reduced or cured with regular exercise.
- For people who have problems with pain in the back, arms and legs and feel weak all the time, exercise benefits them greatly.
- Exercise can also normalize cholesterol levels in the body. Regular exercise decreases the amount of bad cholesterol and increases the amount of good cholesterol. Through this, heart health is also maintained and we are able to take in more oxygen.
Which Exercise Is Better And When?
Meenu Verma says that it is more beneficial to exercise in the morning than in the evening. Exercising at this time keeps both the body and the mind healthy and more oxygen can be taken in. If possible, a time should be fixed in the morning for exercise. The time during or before sunrise is the best.
Before starting any exercise, take the help of an expert fitness trainer to learn how to exercise properly. Exercises done in an incorrect manner can harm your body. There are many forms of exercise such as workout, yoga, aerobics, zumba, sports, dance or gym, etc., from which you can choose. Opt for the one that you enjoy doing.
Workout In Office
It is not easy for working professionals to follow a proper exercise routine. And sitting in the office for long hours can cause pain and discomfort to various parts of the body like the eyes, shoulder, neck, fingers, feet, etc. Our expert Meenu Verma says that in such a situation some special habits can be adopted, which are as effective as exercise. Here are some such habits:
- If possible and if there is a need, use stairs to go up and down in a building, instead of elevators.
- During work, when you are sitting on the chair, take a few moments to lift the heels off the ground and then slowly put them back on the ground. This process can be repeated up to 8-10 times and this exercise can be done more than once a day.
- While sitting in a chair, raise your shoulders as high as possible. Apart from this, rotate the shoulders first forward and then backward in a clockwise direction.
- Whenever you get the time and you are sitting on the chair, first stand straight and then sit down keeping the waist straight. Keep in mind that the waist should remain straight in this exercise. This exercise can also be repeated 10-15 times at a time and 1-3 times a day, as per your convenience.
- While sitting on the chair, tighten and lose your toes. Do the same with your fists to relax your hands.
- For your eyes, rotate your eyes 360 degrees, keeping your neck straight. You can repeat it 2-3 times a day, at your convenience. Apart from this, keep the pen or finger aligned to your shoulder and then move it from right to left and from left to right. During this, the eyes should remain focused on that object.
