Beauty experts believe that skin fasting is great for naturally glowing skin. Here is what our beauty expert explained to us.
What is skin fasting?
Beauty expert Meenu Verma explains that pollution, dietary habits, unhealthy lifestyle and many times using a lot of makeup, especially chemicals-based products and other such reasons can affect our skin.
In such a situation, skin fasting, i.e. leaving the skin to heal naturally and even giving up on the regular skin routine, like using the cleanser, toner, sunscreen, moisturizer, etc., or using it in a much less quantity, can be beneficial.
Meenu Verma says that in the present times, people have become more conscious about their skin. Not just women, but men too use innumerable beauty products to maintain healthy skin. But excess use of these products can affect the natural form of the skin. The natural oils found in the skin begin to dry out and our skin becomes dry, lifeless and unattractive.
In skin fasting, many types of makeup products and other skincare products (especially chemical-based), at regular intervals are either not used or used within a limit for a day or two.
Daily skincare routine is a must
Meenu Verma explains that both men and women must use products according to their skin, with the least number of chemicals for daily use.
If possible, priority must be given to herbal or natural products, because they do not affect the natural texture of the skin much. Along with this, it is important to follow a balanced skincare routine as per the skin type.
Many people, in the name of skincare, start using a lot of skincare products and in larger quantities, which instead of benefitting the skin, harm it. For better skincare, the use of cleanser, sunscreen, day cream and night cream is sufficient.
How to do skin fasting?
The process of skin fasting brings a natural glow to the skin and detoxifies the skin from inside. Here is how to do it:
- To begin with, wash your skin properly with water before sleeping
- Sleep without applying any skincare product
- Wash your face with lukewarm water when you wake up the next morning
- Do not use any product till your face does not feel dry
- The duration of skin fasting can be decided on the basis of how long your skin is able to hold moisture naturally, without using any product. Those who have very dry skin can apply a light oil or a water-based moisturizer, in a small quantity after washing their face with water.
Things to keep in mind
- Do not do this if you have any skin disease or condition
- Drink a lot of water. If your body is dehydrated, it will reflect on the skin
- Do not do this for more than a week
- If you are undergoing a skin treatment, do not do it
- Always eat light, balanced and easily digestible food
- Try to stay away from stress and anxiety
Meenu Verma says that skin fasting gives better results only when we are both mentally as well as physically healthy. Therefore, always eat nutritious food, stay happy, exercise every day and follow a healthy lifestyle.
