COVID-19 has led to numerous changes, both in personal as well as professional life. And one major change regarding the latter was everything going virtual. Work From Home (WFH) was the only option to keep the work going in many companies and organizations, while everyone stayed at home. Even after more than one year of pandemic and working from home, the virus has not been eradicated completely and amidst all the fear of another wave of the pandemic, many companies have extended their WFH policy.
Although staying at home close to family all day and eating multiple meals may be exciting. But, mid-meal snacking and a sedentary lifestyle are a deadly combination. It can lead to digestive problems, higher sugar cravings and weight gain. So what are the things that you must eat? Fruits
Include fresh fruit in your diet. Choose a fruit that is seasonal, grows in your region and has a local name (do not go for exported fruits). Fruits provide prebiotics, which is the food for good bacteria. It also consists of fiber that eases digestion and antioxidants which help our body fight against free radical damage.
Roasted Chana
Rujuta Diweakar recommends including a handful of nuts in your daily diet. Sitting for long hours and not moving around affects our bone mineral density. We begin to have a flabbier appearance. Also, loss of bone mineral density creates a negative impact on the menstrual cycle like changed period patterns, excessive bleeding and trouble during PMS. Therefore, you can include roasted chana, which provides minerals, amino acids and fiber. Roasted chana will help in retaining bone mineral density.
Ghee
Ghee has short-chain fatty acids. It not only smoothes out the digestion process but alongside, it will help in losing the stubborn fat around the waist and thighs. Most importantly, ghee can help bring back the satiety signals (signals that influence a person’s eating behavior). Therefore, you can include a teaspoon (tsp) of ghee with your breakfast, lunch and dinner. Also, ghee will help reduce the eye strain caused during WFH because of prolonged screen exposure.
Therefore, mindful eating and indulging more in physical activities is the key to staying fit while working from home. Eat a well-balanced healthy diet throughout the day and switch to healthy snacking. You can include nuts, fruits, fox nuts, peanuts, etc. as a part of your snack. Cut down on tea/coffee and try to follow a proper workout routine.
