When 'Tiger' saved owner from leopard attack in Darjeeling

A pet dog saved life of its owner, Aruna Lama who was attacked by a leopard on Aug 14 in Darjeeling. Time and again we have seen these four-legged creatures protecting their humans, even by risking their own lives. And, the way this 4-year-old dog protected its human proves that yet again.

Darjeeling (West Bengal): Tiger, a four-year-old dog lived up to its name by putting up a valiant fight to save its owner from a leopard attack in West Bengal's Darjeeling.

The pet dog protected owner Aruna Lama and ensured she stayed safe when the big cat attacked her inside her house.

Giving out more details about the incident, Smriti, Aruna's daughter said, "As my mother was making her way to the ground floor of our house she noticed a pair of glowing eyes, then the leopard attacked her but Tiger (pet dog) saved her."

The 58-year-old victim has suffered 20 stitches on her forehead and near her ears. She has also suffered bruises. At present Lama is receiving treatment at the Darjeeling Sadar Hospital.

"We are installing the cameras near the house where the incident has taken place. There is a possibility that there might be more than one leopard in this area. We will also make the request to the Forest Department to give compensation to the victim," said a police official handling the matter.

'Tiger' is a crossbreed between Tibetan mastiff and a mongrel.

Aruna is a resident of Sonada, Noya gaon of Darjeeling.  Aruna was attacked by a leopard on Aug 14 near her house .Aruna's daughter says,"as my mother was making her way to ground floor of our house she noticed a pair of glowing eyes,then the leopard attacked her but Tiger (pet dog) saved her"  Aruna now hospitalized in a non government nursing home. Forest department said, there's no cause for fear, CCTV camera has been already installed in this area to monitor any activity. Forest department has installed an enclosure also.
