Kolkata: A 59-year-old critically ill coronavirus patient from North 24 Parganas district of West Bengal successfully defeated the lethal virus and returned home on Tuesday after spending 45 days on ventilation, a source said.
Buddhadev Dasgupta, doctor who treated him said "He had severe respiratory problems. Oxygen levels in his body dropped below 80 per cent. He also had high blood pressure, COVID-19 caused severe damage to both sides of his lungs. Doctors were initially sceptical if his life could be saved. But with the help of treatment and physiotherapy, he successfully recovered."

According to the reports, the patient is a Railway's employee, he was admitted to a private hospital near Fuleshwar in Howrah on June 18 with Coronavirus like symptoms.
The doctor further added that due to the ventilation support he became totally depended on it, however, after physiotherapy his body started responding well to the treatment.
"The doctors saved me. I will never be able to repay this debt in my life," the patient said as he returned home after being discharged from the hospital. He broke into tears and exclaimed, "The doctors have given me a new life."
