Mayapur: Police launched a manhunt in West Bengal's Mayapur for an ISKCON monk, who is accused by a male guard of sexually assaulting him.

The incident related to the alleged involvement of Jagaddhatri Das has embarrassed authorities of the religious organisation after a case was lodged against Das following a written complaint from the male guard. The victim lodged a written complaint at Navadwip Police Station.

Superintendent of Police Ishani Das said the accused is absconding and a search operation is on to arrest him. Police sources said Das, who was trying to establish a good rapport with the male guard, called him for work at his office a few days ago. Impressed with the good behaviour of the monk, the unsuspecting guard went to meet him at the office. The monk allegedly called him to his room and began assaulting him sexually after closing the door.

After committing the act, the monk allegedly allured him first and then threatened the guard to conceal the crime. Das also allegedly warned the guard against disclosing the matter to anyone saying any such attempt would cost the latter his job.

The incident agonised the security guard, who narrated his ordeal to others. After a couple of days, a written complaint was finally lodged against the accused. According to sources, the accused monk was also under scanner for sexual misconduct earlier. When reached for comment, ISKCON's public relations officer Rashik Gouranga Das said. "I don't want to comment on this. Higher-ups can be contacted."
