New Delhi: RTI activist Saket Gokhale joined the Trinamool Congress in New Delhi in the presence of senior party leaders Derek O'Brien and Yashwant Sinha on Thursday.

Speaking to the media after joining the party, Saket Gokhale said, "With the way the people of West Bengal threw out the BJP in the assembly elections, I'm very hopeful about 2024, and of course I tend to play my role and my part in this party."

"TMC is the second largest opposition party in the Parliament. I have spent more time in Delhi, my work has been mostly about national issues and less about Maharashtra government, so TMC was the obvious choice," Gokhale said.

"I have been the supporter of Congress and today when we talk about the united opposition, there are ideological issues, ideological overlap on a lot of fronts. But, I have to say here that if we look at all the national parties, TMC takes a very aggressive stand," he added.

"Secondly, the way CM of West Bengal Mamata Banerjee has been fighting on the front foot. The way the party even in the monsoon session of the parliament has been leading the protest, the way the party is united on all issues and speaking in one voice and that is exactly what I have been looking for so there was no other choice but the Trinamool Congress," added Gokhale.
