Darjeeling: A couple died after getting buried under the debris of their own house that collapsed due to a severe landslide in the mountainous region of the city on Monday.
The incident occurred near Pubung Fatak area of the city. More than 15 houses have been damaged in the hills of Kalimpong and Darjeeling district. The road was also severely damaged.
The couple, identified as Kumar Lopanchan (60) and Balkulari Lopanchan (55), was rescued from the ground floor of their house and were taken to the district hospital, where they were declared dead.
The District Administration has informed that they will keep an eye on the situation. According to the weather forecast, rainfall will prevail in the hilly region for three to four days.
