Kolkata: Former Justice Manoj Mukherjee passed away on Saturday at the age of 87. Mukherjee had pertinent role in India's history.

Justice Manoj Mukherjee was appointed at the Bombay and Allahabad High Court. He later was also appointed as a justice of the Supreme Court. After his retirement, the Mukherjee Commission was formed under his leadership. The commission was entrusted with investigating whether Netaji died in a 1945 plane crash.
The Mukherjee Commission, headed by Justice Manoj Mukherjee, was formed in 1999 to unveil the mystery of Netaji's disappearance.

They first claimed that the ashes in the Renkoji temple in Japan were not that of Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose. After the commission submitted its report to the Centre, there was an uproar all over the country .The erstwhile UPA government rejected the report.
