Chandannagar: A picture of an Engineering student sitting on a train with handcuffs has raised problems for the Hooghly police.
The Hooghly police have been accused of violating human rights after the video of the student wearing metallic handcuffs went viral.
Sayandeep, who is a resident of Hooghly district's Astara village in Tarakeswar was a witness of a student union conflict back in the private engineering college that he studied in.
The court had been summoning him in the matter for the last four years, but he never appeared.
After four years, the Hooghly police took him into custody for making him appear in the Chandannagar court.
They were taking him to the police station on a train, where the other travellers noticed the handcuffs on his hand and called it a violation of human rights.
They also took a picture of him along with a video, that went viral.
Human Rights organisations have now taken the matter to the Supreme Court, saying that the police have not followed the rules properly.
