Kolkata: Trinamool Congress (TMC) general secretary Abhishek Banerjee had filed an application in the Calcutta high court seeking exemption from interrogation in connection with the Primary Teachers' Recruitment Scam case even after a hearing on Friday no judgement was delivered. The bench headed by Justice Amrita Sinha posted the matter for Monday for further hearing.
The central agencies such as CBI and ED will put up their pleas before the court on Monday, the next date of the hearing. The probe agencies had pointed out that Abhishek Banerjee's application was flawed. So, they (CBI and ED) must be allowed to put forward their views on the matter. Advocate Kishore Dutta was pleading the case on behalf of TMC leader Abhishek Banerjee. Youth Trinamool leader Kuntal Ghosh, who was arrested in the Primary Teachers' Recruitment scam case, wrote a letter to the Alipore court judge and Hastings police station and complained that the CBI and ED were forcing him to name Abhishek Banerjee.
Similarly, Abhishek Banerjee also alleged from the Shahid Minar dais that several people in jail were being forced to call out his name. Justice Abhijit Gangopadhyay ordered the CBI and ED to interrogate Abhishek Banerjee if necessary to find out if there were any links between these two statements. Then, Abhishek Banerjee appealed to the Supreme Court challenging the order. The Supreme Court reverted the case to the High Court and also directed another bench to hear and dispose of the case.
Earlier, the Supreme Court had directed a stay on all actions against TMC national general secretary Abhishek Banerjee in pursuance of the directions passed by Justice Abhijit Gangopadhyay of the Calcutta High Court through an order which had directed the CBI and the ED to question Banerjee for the Primary Teachers' Recruitment Scam case.
