BSF officer among 7 accused in cattle smuggling case

The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has filed a charge sheet in a cattle smuggling case, that involved then Border Security Force (BSF) Commandant Satish Kumar, before the CBI Court of Asansol.

Kolkata (West Bengal): The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) on Monday filed a chargesheet against seven accused including the then BSF Commandant in a case related to alleged illegal cross-border trade of cattle.

The CBI filed chargesheet in the cattle smuggling case, that also involved BSF Commandant Satish Kumar, before CBI Court of Asansol.

The CBI had registered a case in 2020 in the matter. Searches were conducted at around 34 locations across the country at the premises of accused.

Then BSF Commandant Kumar, and one other person were arrested during the course of investigation.

Evidence was reportedly found during the investigation regarding the alleged illegal cross-border selling of cattle, the related movement, delivery and use of ill-gotten money.

It was further alleged that the arrested person was the organiser of the illegal trade and was assisted by two other accused in connivance with the then commandant of 36 Bn. BSF deployed at Murshidabad and Malda.

Meanwhile, the CBI said further investigation is underway to unearth a larger conspiracy in the matter.
