Howrah (West Bengal): BJP MLA Debendra Nath Ray was found hanging outside a shop in Bindal area, near his house in Hemtabad on Monday.
BJP West Bengal claimed that he was 'killed and then hung'.
Ray had reportedly been called out of his house on Sunday night by some people and did not return home after that.
Debendra was the BJP MLA from a reserved seat in Uttar Dinajpur.

"Body of Shri Debendra Nath Ray, BJP MLA from Hemtabad, a reserved seat, in Uttar Dinajpur, was found hanging like this in Bindal, near his village home. People are of the clear opinion that he was first killed and then hung. His crime? He joined the BJP in 2019," BJP Bengal's tweet read.
BJP President J P Nadda also tweeted on Ray's death.
He wrote: "The suspected heinous killing of Debendra Nath Ray, BJP MLA from Hemtabad in West Bengal, is extremely shocking and deplorable. This speaks of the Gunda Raj & failure of law and order in the Mamta govt."
According to Raiganj Zila SP Sumit Kumar, the police reached the spot after getting the information from local residents.
A case has been registered at the local police station, and Ray's body has been sent for post-mortem.
The cause of his death is yet to be ascertained.
Further investigation in the matter is underway.
