Kolkata: After a recent scandal involving a fake IAS officer, authorities in West Bengal have nabbed another fraudster, who had created a fake identity of a deputy superintendent of police.
After being tipped off by sources, the officials of the anti rowdy squad (ARS) under the detective department (DD) of Kolkata Police, on Thursday morning, busted a racket of people duping people with promising them civic jobs in the state police. Four persons, including the gang kingpin, Masood Rana, who used to fake as police DSP, were arrested. The remaining three arrested people also used to pose as police officers.
A few days back, Samaresh Mahata, a resident of Salboni in the West Midnapore district of West Bengal, filed a complaint claiming that Rana duped him of a massive amount of Rs 35 lakhs against a fake job offer as a home guard in the state police. In his attempt to make the forgery look genuine, Rana handed over to the victim a forged appointment letter, a khaki beret cap and a belt sporting the police symbol.

The police started investigating and finally, they arrested Rana and his three associated namely Subhro Nag Roy, Pantosh Burman and Robi Murmu from a hotel in central Kolkata.
An amount of Rs 1.85 lakhs, Rana's forged identity of police DSP and other incriminating documents were recovered from the accused.
