West Bengal: As the Modi 2.0 completed its 100 days on Sunday, former Lok Sabha MP and leader of the Communist Party of India (Marxist), Mohammad Salim took a dig at the economic performance of the Modi government, by drawing the issue of sustained drop in demand in popular Parle-G biscuits.
Speaking to ETV Bharat, Salim said that the government should take swift action on the real issues regarding economy, including unemployment, agrarian crisis, lack of investment and the industrial sector.
"indians are thinking twice before buying a Rs.5 biscuit," Salim said taking a dig at the slowdown in the economy and industrial shutdowns.
He further said that the exclusion of over 19 lakh Assamese people from the NRC list is a great humanitarian crisis and the government is shifting the focus from real issues using NRC and Kashmir.
"National Register of citizens is going to cause New Refugee Crisis," he claimed.
"You cannot throw out such a large number of Indian citizens overnight, these people can't be deprived of their rights only because they don't have sufficient documents or their documents are not verified properly. This is a human crisis which should not be overlooked," he added.
He also added that the Modi government tried to distract people from the economic crisis by highlighting the Moon mission. "Chandrayaan-2 is the mission of our entire country and we are proud of ISRO, but the way Prime Minister hogs the limelight becomes obnoxious," Salim said.
Mohammad Salim said that the government should do the business of governance. The centre should focus on the issues related to our economy, youth and development instead of trying to shift the 'goal post' from such issues.
