Uttarakhand man enters Guinness Book for 2.16 m long coriander plant

Gopal Dutt Upreti from Ranikhet of Uttarakhand has grown a 2.16 m tall organic coriander plant in his garden and has entered the Guinness Book of World Records. Upreti said that there is immense potential in the state in the field of organic farming and his coriander plants have proved it.

Ranikhet (Uttarakhand): A progressive farmer from Billekh village of Tadikhet development block of Almora has registered his name in the Guinness Book of World Records by growing coriander plant.

Gopal Dutt Upreti has grown a 2.16 m tall organic coriander plant in his garden which in itself is a world record. MP Ajay Bhatt congratulated Upreti on this achievement through a Tweet.

Upreti said that the length of the plant was recorded by Chief Park Officer of the district Teen Pandey, Uttarakhand Organic Board Majkhali In-charge DS Negi and Horticulture Center Billekh in-charge Ram Singh Negi.

All plants were over 5 feet in length.

He told that the average roundness of coriander plant was from 5 to 10 feet. The thickness of the stem of the plant was found from half an inch to 1 inch. He also said that this crop has been grown completely in the traditional way. There is no difference in the aroma and other characteristics of this plant from the common variety.

Not only this, but Upreti has also been growing in his garden all kinds of vegetables besides peach, apricot and other mountain fruits in an organic way. He uses dung and neem as fertilizer.

Upreti said that there is immense potential in the state in the field of organic farming and his coriander plants have proved it. He dedicates his achievement to the organic farmers of the state and the country.

He said that the entry in the Guinness Book of Records would lead to awareness and competition among the farmers and would be good for the country’s agriculture too.
