Haridwar: In a compassionate gesture, people in Uttarakhand's Haridwar district save hundreds of fish, struggling for life at Har Ki Pauri Ghat, by putting them back into the river Ganges. Local residents and devotees saw these fish in the catchment area and shifted them to the river. Due to the low water level of the river Ganges, a large number of fish started surfacing on the silt in the catchment area.
The incident is usual when the water level of the holy river slightly decreases while coming towards Har Ki Pauri. Seeing these creatures in agony, Sanjay Sharma and Pulkit started rescuing them and sooner they were joined by many other people present near the ghat. Notably, with the onset of the monsoon, the water level of the river Ganges has increased in the hilly areas following which a huge amount of silt is getting deposited near the river banks and catchment area.

This has also resulted in a drop in the water level of the Ganges in the Har Ki Pauri canal due to which the fish start surfacing near ghats.
