Uttarkashi: A shocking statistical data revealed that the sex ratio is decreasing in Uttarkashi district of Uttarakhand. The female birth rate has been found comparatively low than the male birth rate in six major blocks of the city.
According to the reports revealed by the ASHA workers, it has been seen that in the last six months the birth rate in Bhatwadi, Dunda, Chinyalisour, Naugaon, Purola and Mori has rapidly declined.
Earlier, Uttarkashi's District Magistrate Ashish Chouhan has asked ASHA workers to submit a report of the last six months which revealed that in some places the female birth rate is zero.
In the last six months, it has been recorded that only two girl children were born out of 11 in a village. Similarly, in many villages, five children were born in 6 months but not a single child was a girl.
According to the 2011 census, there were only 1,61,489 females as compared to 1,68,597 male in Uttarkashi
Later, a campaign called 'Red Zone ASHA' was launched by DM Ashish Chouhan in order to create awareness among the people. Reports regarding birth rate will be sought from each block in every six months.
Expressing concern over the matter, DM Ashish Chouhan said, "The officials of the Health Department will conduct an inspection in this region where the female birth rate is low. Also, the awareness campaign will be conducted to increase female fertility rate in the region."
