Sadhvi Padmavati writes to PM, asks immediate removal of top govt officials

Padmavati, who has been fasting for 55 days, wrote a letter to Prime Minister Narendra Modi demanding the immediate removal of top officials. Matri Sadan chief Swami Shivanand Saraswati alleged that the state government is conspiring to end the ongoing fast-unto-death by Sadhvi Padmavati.

Haridwar: Sadhvi Padmavati who is on a strike since December 15, over the rejuvenation of river Ganga, wrote a letter to Prime Minister Narendra Modi demanding the immediate removal of Union Jal Shakti minister Gajendra Singh Shekhawat and his secretary, Chief Minister of Uttarakhand, CMO of Haridwar and Dehradun, and a doctor.

Matri Sadan chief Swami Shivanand Saraswati expressed apprehension of a conspiracy by the state government to end the ongoing fast-unto-death by Sadhvi Padmavati by using force and a possible attempt to kill her.

Matri Sadan in Haridwar also filed an application in the court of chief judicial magistrate against the officials for forcefully airlifting Sadhvi Padmavati from the Ashram on January 30 and taking her to the Government Doon Medical College hospital in Dehradun.

It is pertinent to mention here that Matri Sadan has been a nucleus of hunger strikes in support of Ganga related affairs.

In 2011, Shivanand’s disciple, Nigamanand had died while undertaking a 115-day fast. On October 11, 2018, 86-year-old IIT professor GD Agrawal had also died after a prolonged hunger strike.

Earlier, Bihar chief minister Nitish Kumar had written to Prime Minister Narendra Modi seeking his intervention in sufficing the demands of the Sadhvi Padmavati.
