Roorkee: Two Nigerian students were allegedly thrashed by fellow students in Uttarakhand's Roorkee city, following an altercation on Wednesday.
The inhumane incident came to light after the video of the act went viral on social media.
As per reports, the incident took place at Roorkee Institute of Technology under Bhagwanpur police station limits. The two students were suspended by the college authorities for some reason and the duo was staying in the hostel.
In the video, a group of 10-15 boys can be seen thrashing two students in the premises of the varsity. As the video progresses, the victim can be seen being dragged downstairs, by the group of boys.
The incident took place in the presence of security guard and faculty of the university- another reason the video drew severe criticism among netizens for being inhumane.
As soon as the video went viral, the city police swung into action to ascertain the exact cause of the incident and take action against those guilty in the case.
"The investigation is ongoing. Each and every aspect of the case is being closely monitored. I condemn the act and assure that strict action will be taken against those guilty," Abhay Singh, CO Manglaur, Haridwar.
"Total 8 persons including the security guards of a private college were arrested for allegedly thrashing two Nigerian students, in Haridwar district. A case has been registered. Action to be taken against those involved in the incident," Kumar added.
