Dehradun: Three roosters died and many other injured on Thursday in Uttarakhand's Dehradun when the wire with which they were tied to the back of a scooter tripped.
The incident happened at the Ballupur flyover in Dehradun.
Principal Chief Conservator of Forests, Jairaj was passing by when the incident took place. He stopped and booked the driver of the two-wheeler. On the complaint of a beat officer of the Kanwali range, a case under cruelty to animals has been registered against the scooter driver.
As per information, Chander road resident Shahnawaz was ferrying these fowls tied to the back of his scooter. He was heading towards Prem Nagar area when the rope tripped off and the birds fell on the ground.
Three roosters died after being run over by other passing vehicles. Seven roosters survived the fall were sent to a relief hospital and 12 of them were buried.
Incidentally, Principal Chief Conservator of Forests, Jairaj was passing on the flyover. On witnessing the incident he called the forest department team. The forest department team lead by Kanwali Range beat officer, Ankur Sharma arrested the accused Shahnawaz.
The accused was taken to the Vasant Vihar police station, where the police registered a case against Shahnawaz on the complaint of the beat officer.
PCCF Jairaj said that as per Section 428 of the IPC if the cost of the animal is more than 10 rupees, the accused can face a jail term of up to two years. Whereas in section 429, if the cost of the animal is more than 50 rupees or more, the jail term can be up to five years.
Jairaj said that he acted as a common citizen and got a case registered against the accused. He hopes that this incident will take the various rules in the system made for the protection of animals in the public domain.
Ironically, all the roosters were taken to be sold in the market, but post this incident a case was registered against the scooter driver and strict action was initiated.
