'Not all promises made during Kargil were kept'

Amit Negi, of Kundeshwari village in Uttarakhand, was second among the five siblings. He joined the Indian Army in 1994 and was a part of the 17th Garhwal Riffles at the time of the Kargil war. He was martyred on June 29, 1999, while fighting the enemy.

His brother Sumit Negi said whenever Amit would come home, he would share bravery stories of army personnel with the family members. He himself died at the age of 23.

Talking about the promises that were made at the time of the war, Sumit Negi said the family of the soldier, who sacrificed his life for the nation, is still waiting for a connecting road to their house. He, however, admitted that the family received all possible help and support from the government.

Sumit Negi said the condition of the road remains the same as it was 20 years ago. For several years, he has been knocking the doors to various authorities and officials concerning the matter, but all proved futile till date.

The family has been waiting for the road to be built for the past 20 years. Local leaders are busy developing other areas of the village but nothing is being done to address their issue, he alleged.
