Uttarakhand: An elephant calf was injured after being hit by a truck last night in Lachhiwala forest range near Doiwala in Dehradun district.
According to Divisional Forest Officer (DFO) Rajeev Dhiman, "The incident happened late night when the elephant calf along with mother was crossing the road and was hit by a speeding truck. The calf was severely injured."
He further added that the calf, which was being accorded with medical treatment, was around three-years-old and weighs 600 kg.
The truck driver and conductor have been apprehended by the forest department on Sunday.
Reportedly, speed breakers will be constructed as a precautionary measure to avoid any such incidents in future.
