Dehradun: In a rare move, Dehradun police is helping a former thief to pursue his studies and become a successful lawyer.
A class 12 student, Archit was involved with drugs cases of theft before he was arrested and sentenced to one year in prison. Archit was among those 700 prisoners who were released on parole for six months following a court's order.
"When all the prisoners were released on parole and went to their homes, Archit was refused by his family members. He came to Raipur police station and the station in-charge gave him shelter," an official said. He also added that during the lockdown, Archit along with the police distributed ration and food to the people.

After seeing his changed behaviour, his jail term was revoked. Police personnel are now helping him with educated to become a lawyer, police said.
Archit lived in his aunt’s home in Dehradun. He got addicted to drugs and committed theft when he did not have the money for drugs.
