BSF chopper flies down EVMs from world's highest polling station

EVMs and VVPATs were brought to Lahaul-Spiti district headquarter in a Border Security Force (BSF) chopper from world's highest polling station Tashigang on Monday morning. The polling for Mandi constituency was held in Tashigang in the last and final phase of 2019 general elections on May 19.

Shimla: With counting of votes scheduled on May 23, EVMs and VVPATs were brought from Tashigang, world's highest polling station, to Lahaul-Spiti district headquarter in a Border Security Force (BSF) chopper on Monday afternoon.

The Tashigang polling booth which is situated at a height of 15256 ft falls under the Mandi parliamentary constituency of the state. The booth had a total of 48 voters--30 male and 18 female.

Earlier, the booth was at Gete village's government primary school in the district. However, in the 2019 general elections, the booth was shifted to Tashigang.

According to district administration officials cause behind the shift of polling booth was stated to be the cracks that developed in the primary school wall.

While BJP has pitched in Ram Swaroop Sharma, Congress has relied on former union minister Pandit Sukhram's grandson Ashray Sharma from Mandi.
