Pithoragarh: 9-ft-long cobra spotted at 2,240m altitude

A nine-foot-long cobra was spotted for the first time in Munsiyari village, which is located at an altitude of over 7,000 feet in Uttarakhand's Pithoragarh. The snake was seen slithering across the rocky terrain near Gumsain on the Nanda Devi road of Munsiyari.

Pithoragarh: In a bizarre incident, a nine-foot-long cobra was spotted for the first time in Munsiyari village, which is located at an altitude of over 7,000 feet in Uttarakhand's Pithoragarh. The snake was seen slithering across the rocky terrain near Gumsain on the Nanda Devi road of Munsiyari. The incident has become a topic of discussion as are commonly seen in low altitude areas.

The news has created panic in the region leaving people in shock. Those who have sighted the huge snake have also clicked its pictures and shot videos which are doing rounds on social media. The Forest Department of Uttarakhand said that this was the first time the world’s longest venomous snake has been sighted at an altitude of nearly 2,240 meters. According to Pithoragarh Forest Department ranger Dinesh Joshi, Cobras are generally found in warm areas and they must have reached Munsiyari from lower altitudes.

Cobra was first sighted in Uttarakhand in 2006 in the Bhowali forest range of Nainital district. Following this, in the year 2012, its nest was found at an altitude of 2,303 meters in Mukteshwar.
