Yogi offers prayers at Gorakhnath temple as it opens post-lockdown

UP CM Yogi Adityanath visited Gorakhnath temple after it was opened for the first time on Monday post-coronavirus-induced national lockdown was imposed in March. He was the first one to offer prayer at the temple of which he is the head priest.

Gorakhpur: Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on Monday offered prayers at the Gorakhnath temple as India threw open its places of worship for the first time after the coronavirus-induced lockdown was imposed in March last.

The Chief Minister reached the Gorakhnath Math -- of which he is the head priest -- early morning to offer prayers as the temple reopened its doors to devotees. He had arrived here on Sunday to inspect arrangements in government hospitals in the backdrop of the rising number of coronavirus infected people in the state. Elaborate arrangements have been made by the Gorakhnath Math authorities for visitors to the temple as people learn to live with the deadly virus, also known as COVID-19.

Arrangements have been made to ensure thermal scanning, proper sanitizing and social distancing among the devotees.

Earlier, the Uttar Pradesh government had issued a set of guidelines to be followed by devotees and authorities for religious places that reopened from Monday.

Devotees cannot make any offerings of 'prasad' nor touch statues, idols, or holy books at places of worship during their visits.

The Chief Minister reached the Gorakhnath Math -- of which he is the head priest -- early morning to offer prayers as the temple reopened its doors to devotees.
