Fatehpur (UP): A newly married woman and her 14-months-old son at Kanera Mechak village in Uttar Pradesh’s Fatehpur district charred to death after the woman allegedly set herself and her sons afire after quarreling with her husband on Wednesday morning.
The deceased woman has been identified as Needhi Devi of the same village.
According to sources, the woman took the drastic step after her she had an argument with her husband, Pramod Kumar. The woman's husband was not at home when the incident took place.
Hearing their screams, the neighbours barged into their house and saw the severely burned woman along with her son. Locals immediately rushed them to the nearby hospital and informed Pramod Kumar about the incident. However, the mother-son duo was declared brought dead in the hospital, sources said.
Rajesh Kumar, Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) of Fatehpur police station said that bodies have been sent for post-mortem and an FIR has been lodged by deceased woman's brother against Pramod Kumar.
As per the plaint filed by the deceased woman’s brother, her in-laws tortured and harassed her both physically and mentally over the dowry demand that remained unfulfilled.
However, the exact cause behind the incident is yet to be ascertained. Police have launched a probe into the matter, sources added.
